COURSE DEFINITIONS / DESCRIPTIONS

 
 *HLTAID001 - CPR, Provide CPR   

Perform CPR covers the crucial skills and knowledge required to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

You will learn to:

  • Chain of Survival
  • Assess the situation
  • DRSABCD
  • Legal responsibilities, Duty of Care & Documentaion
  • Infection Control
  • Respond to and care for an unconscious casualty
  • Assessing signs of life
  • Safe handling of a casualty
  • Perform CPR 
  • Special techniques for the care of Infants & Children
  • CPR in special circumstances
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator) awareness

Duration:Minimum 3 hours
Assessment Method:Competency based. Assessment is ongoing through demonstration of practical skills. This Nationally Recognised Qualification is issued by APL Group, RTO 3586. Frankston First Aid Training have a partnering arrangement with APL Group.

HLTAID002 - Level 1 First Aid, Provide Basic Emergency Life Support. 

You will learn the knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for some life threatening injuries and illnesses.

You will learn about the:

  • Chain of survival
  • Assessing the situation
  • DRSABCD
  • Performing CPR
  • Demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  •  Care of the unconscious person
  • Special techniques for children and Infants
  • CPR in special circumstances
  • Breathing Emergencies including Choking and Asthma
  • Shock
  • Severe Allergic reaction
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Infection control
  • Reporting procedures

Duration:Minimum 1 or 2 day options (Online/ Workbook Options available)
Assessment Method:Competency based. Demonstration of practical skills, role plays, and case studies. This Nationally Recognised Qualification is issued by APL Group, RTO 3586. Frankston First Aid Training have a partnering arrangement with APL Group.

 You will learn the fundamental first aid principles, knowledge and skills to provide emergency care for injuries and illnesses in the home or the workplace.

You will learn about the:

- Demonstrate use of an automated external defibrillator
- Care of the unconscious person
- Special techniques for children and Infants

- Shock
- Bleeding and wound care (Bandaging and Slings)
- Burns and scalds
- Extremes of Heat and Cold
- Poisoning
- Altered Conscious States (- Infection control
- Reporting procedures
Stroke, Diabetes, Substance misuse & Seizures)
- Bites and stings (Envenomation)
- Musculoskeletal injuries (Head & Spinal Injuries, Fractures & Dislocations)

Duration:

1 or 2 Day Format (Online/ Workbook Options available)

Participants involved in the Refresher course will only need to complete a 1 Day practical. Evidence of a current certificate needs to be shown to the trainer.

*22099VIC - Anaphylaxis Training, Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis

22099VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis is for people who care for children or a person at risk of anaphylaxis. This Nationally Accredited Training course provides participants with the crucial knowledge and skills so that they can recognise signs of a severe allergic reaction and provide appropriate first aid treatment for anaphylaxis.  You will also learn how to develop and implement strategies to prevent allergic and anaphylactic reactions.

There are two units of competency in this course:

  • VU20296 Provide first aid management of severe allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
  • VU20297 Develop risk minimisation and management strategies for allergic reaction and anaphylaxis


This course is for people who care for a person at risk of anaphylaxis. The course will help you gain knowledge and skills in the area of:  

  • Allergies and Anaphylaxis
  • Identification of triggers that cause anaphylaxis
  •  Identification of the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
  • Providing emergency first aid management for anaphylaxis
  • Risk Assessment and Risk minimisation in your environment
  • How to identify a child at risk of anaphylaxis
  • Understanding and implementing an Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plan
  • Current Legislation
  • Administering of an adrenaline auto injecting device, such as an EpiPen or Anapen

 *There are no pre-requisites for attending this course however it is recommended that participants have sound literacy and numeracy skills.

 Duration and Validity

The course runs for 3 - 3.5 hours and is valid for 3 years. When you are deemed competent you will gain a Statement of Attainment in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis.  This will be based on a number of assessment tasks conducted during the training session. This Nationally Recognised Qualification is issued by APL Group, RTO 3586. Frankston First Aid Training have a partnering arrangement with APL Group.

22099VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis meets the requirements of Ministerial Order 90 and the Victorian Children's Services Regulations regarding 'Anaphylaxis Training' required for all school and children's services staff that have a child at risk of anaphylaxis in their care.

*22282VIC Emergency Management of Asthma, Nationally Recognised Accredited Course:

Unit Code & Title:

VU20011 Manage asthma emergencies

This course applies to a wide range of settings where emergencies involving asthma attacks may occur. It is relevant for people working in childcare, education, aged and community care, sport, tourism, hospitality, industry enterprises and other environments.

3 hours classroom training and assessment

This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle asthma emergency situations in the workplace. It includes:
 

+ Background knowledge of the causes, symptoms and effects of asthma

+ Emergency treatment of asthma

+ Risk minimisation and management strategies for asthma emergencies

There are no prerequisite units for this course, though participants should have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to level 2 of the National Reporting System.  

Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge.

A Nationally-Recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants. This Nationally Recognised Qualification is issued by APL Group, RTO 3586.  Frankston First Aid Training are working in Partnership with the APL Group.
